From Maquis to Médoc:
Global Field Seminar Route
The interactive map below traces the general route of the From Maquis to Médoc global field seminar, beginning in the wooded valleys of the Dordogne and concluding in the port city of Bordeaux. Use the map to zoom out and situate the region within southwestern France, or zoom in to explore the river corridors, medieval towns, forest ridges, and vineyard landscapes that shape the journey.
The seminar opens in the Périgord Noir, where wooded terrain and river crossings once shaped concealment, movement, and survival. From there, the route follows the Dordogne River westward as it widens and joins the Garonne, gradually transitioning from rural valley life to the structured urban scale of Bordeaux. This east-to-west progression reflects the seminar’s geographic arc — tracing how the same landscape sustained resistance, repression, cultivation, and trade as it moves toward the Atlantic.
